ATIKONDA "CHARLIE" CHALE
Serving in Chiang Mai, Thailand
My name is Atikonda (Charlie), and this is my wife Eileen. Separately, God called us to join His work in Thailand, and we met in 2020 shortly after arriving inChiang Mai just one day apart from each other! We have now been serving in Thailand for nearly 6 years as teachers, coaches, church leaders, and disciple-makers.
I am from Malawi, Africa. I was born and raised in a Christian family where my parents served as pastors and church planters. I gave my life to Christ at the age of 12 and at the same time, felt a call into ministry. While pastoring at a local church in Malawi and serving as a missions coordinator, God opened my eyes to cross-cultural missions, which led me to various training and ministry opportunities around Africa. After pursuing more theological training in Kenya, I served a total of 4 years there as a lecturer/assistant teacher until God brought me to Thailand.
Eileen is from California, USA. She became a follower of Jesus while in college and is now one of the few believers in her family. As a young adult, she began to support missionaries through prayer and finances. She was eventually convicted to go serve God in a nation unreached by the Gospel, which led her to Thailand, a country that has only about 1% Christians.
During our time here, we've had the honor & joy of:
-
Pioneering a sports ministry.
-
Partnering with local believers in children, youth, and campus ministries.
-
Partnering with a local Thai pastor in church planting activities with one church planted so far.
-
Discipling, training, and sending out both local and international believers.
-
Mentoring and walking alongside young men and women who sense a call into cross-cultural missions.
-
Training pastors in mission mobilization and discipleship (Have so far trained 100+ pastors and church leaders).
Our Passion: We are passionate about partnering with local churches / believers to raise up future church planters and leaders. We want to help people encounter Jesus, trust in a relationship with Him, and become planted in a church fellowship so they can continue to be discipled and become disciple- makers. We want to see Thailand transformed by the love and power of Jesus.
Our Work: We currently run a sports ministry, working withat-risk youth in a low income community. We alsoserve as church board leaders in our local Thaichurch, engage in college ministry, and leadweekly Bible study groups.
Join Us: We ask you to partner prayerfully and financially with us as we continue to grow and develop more sports ministry centers, with the intention of planting Bible study groups that will turn into house churches all over Chiang Mai. Running this ministry requires football/soccer field rentals, sports equipment, transportation, and other resources for the children.
We praise God for bringing Pastor Carlos Sales and Reaching The Hungry into our lives as ministry partners. We are grateful for the regular financial support and the gift of a motorbike, which has been a great tool enabling us to go to different places for ministry. It is a great blessing to partner with Reaching The Hungry. The world out here is hungry and starving. We thank God that He has opened a door for us to reach them in word and deed. Let us work together as God’s unique vessels.
