The Impossible ~ by Mary Ann Núñez

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you could not pray objectively? It started with a conversation over a chicken wrap ten days ago with my dear friend Alison. Her face lit up as she spoke of her upcoming trip to Africa. I replied with the standard, "Can I go with you?" She said, "I think so." Something dormant deep inside began to stir. "Do you want me to ask?" My thoughts swirled, 'Do I dare?' The rest of the day I dreamed of it, like you would winning the lottery. I even ordered a long 'missionary' skirt on Amazon. (ha)

The next day a text, "We would love to have you!" Every fiber of my being came alive.  I called Carlos Sales, head of Reaching The Hungry. (If you ever need to be reminded of what God can do, call this man.) As he spoke to me, the dream slowly turned into a vision. That night my dear, sweet, practical husband who has hitched his wagon to a crazy lady said, "Let's go for it." We boldly asked our life group to pray with us.  And then…

This last weekend was rough. As I prepared to file taxes, I saw a glaring, costly error. Still reeling from that, my son called to say he had been in a fender bender. And so the weekend went with one discouraging thing after another. I called Kristin sure that God was telling me, "NO!" Kristin laughed, "I don't think He works that way."  On Tuesday night, when I realized we had to have a $2000 deposit by the next day, I was ready to surrender.

Five am, I woke to the sound of my son preparing to leave for an early morning surf. I googled 'ways to make money fast,' but since I didn't think I could recover from selling my kidney in time for the trip, I clicked my phone off. And I did what I should have done from the beginning, instead of, "Please, please, oh please." I began praying, "What would you have me to do, Lord?" My brain went into hyperdrive, ideas began to flow; and so like Gideon in Judges 6, I set out a 'fleece'. If God would provide the down payment, I would know that this was His will and not just my desire.

I texted a few close friends I knew would pray, I posted a cryptic message on the Ministry page.  What transpired in the 12 hours, still blows me away. By 11 am I had been given $1000! The rest of the day was a beautiful blur, as I zigzagged through North County watching God do the impossible.  By the time I arrived at the Sales' home, checks and applications in hand, I was overwhelmed by God goodness and love.  I wept at their table.

We have sixty-seven days until our trip, and more impossible things to witness.  I can't tell you how great it is to know that God is in this. I have the audacity to proclaim, "Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! NOTHING is too hard for you." Jeremiah 32:17
